The session covered the players involved in reinsurance, such as insured parties, reinsurers, brokers, underwriters, and intermediaries. Dr. Pant outlined the current status of the Nepalese reinsurance market, noting the establishment of Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd in 2014 and Himalayan Reinsurance Company Ltd in 2021. She highlighted factors affecting the market, such as government laws, regulatory requirements, and international practices. Dr. Pant discussed several challenges facing Nepal’s reinsurance market, including financial strength, credit ratings, a lack of expertise, policy intervention by regulators, and competition with international reinsurers.
